Overnight: Kathmandu
Maximum Altitude: 1,400 m / 4,593 ft
Set out early from Kathmandu for the long but fascinating overland journey toward the Everest region. The road gradually leaves the busy Kathmandu Valley behind and winds through Nepal's middle hills, passing terraced farmland, forested ridges, rivers, roadside settlements, and traditional villages.
As the landscape becomes increasingly remote, you get your first real sense of the mountain environment that lies ahead. The journey toward Salleri generally takes around 8–10 hours, although actual travel time can vary with traffic, weather, road conditions, and local conditions. Upon arrival, settle into your lodge and rest before the next day's journey deeper into the Solu-Khumbu region.
Overnight: Salleri
Maximum Altitude: Approx. 2,400 m / 7,900 ft
Drive Duration: Approx. 8–10 hours
After breakfast, continue toward the mountain trailhead by local 4WD vehicle. The road becomes narrower and more rugged as you travel deeper into the hills, making this section a genuine Himalayan overland experience. Road conditions can be uneven, and travel time depends heavily on the season and condition of the trailhead road.
At Thamdanda, leave the vehicle behind and begin walking toward Paiya. The short opening trek takes you through forested terrain and quiet mountain surroundings, offering your first opportunity to settle into the rhythm of Himalayan trekking. As you arrive in Paiya, enjoy a warm meal and a peaceful evening at your lodge.
Overnight: Paiya
Maximum Altitude: Approx. 2,730 m / 8,957 ft
Drive: Approx. 5–6 hours
Trek: Approx. 1–2 hours
Today marks your first substantial day on foot. The trail winds through forests and rolling mountain terrain as you gradually make your way toward the main Everest trekking corridor. Along the way, you encounter small settlements, local lodges, prayer flags, and changing views across the valleys.
The trail eventually leads toward the Dudh Koshi Valley and the familiar Everest route. By the time you reach Phakding, the character of the journey has changed noticeably—from the quieter approach trails to a more established trekking environment. Relax at the lodge and prepare for the significant ascent toward Namche Bazaar tomorrow.
Overnight: Phakding
Maximum Altitude: Approx. 2,610 m / 8,560 ft
Trek Duration: Approx. 5–7 hours
After breakfast, follow the Dudh Koshi River north toward the heart of the Khumbu. The trail crosses several suspension bridges and passes through pine and rhododendron forests before reaching Monjo, where the route enters Sagarmatha National Park.
From here, the trail continues toward Jorsale and follows the river before beginning the more demanding climb toward Namche Bazaar. One of the day's memorable moments comes when the trail crosses the famous suspension bridge and begins its sustained ascent through the forested hillside.
After several hours of climbing, the landscape opens to reveal Namche Bazaar, the historic Sherpa trading centre and one of the most important settlements on the Everest route.
Overnight: Namche Bazaar
Maximum Altitude: 3,440 m / 11,286 ft
Trek Duration: Approx. 5–7 hours
Today is dedicated to acclimatization rather than simply resting in the lodge. A gradual hike to the higher viewpoints above Namche allows you to gain some additional altitude during the day before returning to sleep lower.
Depending on conditions and the group's pace, the hike can include the Everest View Hotel and surrounding viewpoints, with impressive vistas toward Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and other Himalayan peaks. You can also spend time exploring Namche's narrow streets, local shops, bakeries, and Sherpa cultural surroundings.
This carefully placed acclimatization day is an important part of the itinerary as the trail will soon climb above 4,000 meters.
Overnight: Namche Bazaar
Maximum Altitude: Approx. 3,440 m / 11,286 ft
Activity: Acclimatization hike
Leave Namche and follow a spectacular high-level trail overlooking the deep valleys of the Khumbu. The route initially contours along the mountainside, creating expansive views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku before descending toward the Dudh Koshi.
After reaching the lower valley, the trail climbs again through forests of pine and rhododendron toward Tengboche. The final approach reveals one of the most atmospheric settings on the trek, with Tengboche Monastery standing against a dramatic Himalayan backdrop.
If timing and local schedules permit, you may have the opportunity to experience the peaceful monastery surroundings and learn more about the Buddhist traditions deeply connected with life in the Khumbu.
Overnight: Tengboche
Maximum Altitude: Approx. 3,860 m / 12,664 ft
Trek Duration: Approx. 5–6 hours
Begin the day descending through beautiful alpine forests toward Deboche before crossing the Imja Khola. From here, the trail gradually climbs through Pangboche and into the upper Imja Valley.
As you gain altitude, the dense forests begin to thin and the landscape takes on a distinctly alpine character. The enormous profile of Ama Dablam dominates the surrounding scenery, while other Himalayan peaks appear increasingly close.
The final section brings you into Dingboche, a broad high-altitude valley surrounded by mountains. This settlement will be your base for another important acclimatization day before entering the highest section of the trek.
Overnight: Dingboche
Maximum Altitude: Approx. 4,410 m / 14,469 ft
Trek Duration: Approx. 5–6 hours
Another carefully timed acclimatization day gives your body an opportunity to adjust to the thinner air before the demanding approach to Everest Base Camp.
Rather than remaining inactive all day, take a gradual hike above Dingboche toward the surrounding ridges. The higher viewpoints provide remarkable perspectives of Ama Dablam, Island Peak, Lhotse, Makalu, and the surrounding Himalayan landscape, depending on visibility.
Return to Dingboche in the afternoon and use the remaining time to rest, hydrate, and prepare for the increasingly demanding days ahead. Acclimatization at this elevation is particularly valuable before continuing toward Lobuche, Gorak Shep, and Everest Base Camp.
Overnight: Dingboche
Maximum Altitude: Approx. 4,410 m / 14,469 ft
Activity: Acclimatization hike
Continue upward through rugged The landscape changes dramatically today as the trail leaves the greener valleys behind and enters a stark, high-altitude environment. From Dingboche, continue toward the settlement of Duglha before climbing toward the terminal moraine area of the Khumbu Glacier.
The climb above Duglha is demanding, but the surrounding scenery becomes increasingly spectacular. Along the way, you pass memorials dedicated to climbers who lost their lives in the Everest region—a quiet and deeply moving section of the journey.
Continue through the barren alpine landscape toward Lobuche, where the towering peaks and glacial terrain create a powerful sense of being deep in the Himalayas.
Overnight: Lobuche
Maximum Altitude: Approx. 4,940 m / 16,207 ft
Trek Duration: Approx. 5–6 hourslandscapes where the air becomes thinner and the mountains feel closer. Pass through the memorial area dedicated to climbers before reaching Lobuche, surrounded by dramatic Himalayan scenery.
Today is the defining day of your Everest journey. Start early from Lobuche and follow the rugged trail toward Gorak Shep, the final settlement before Everest Base Camp. The route gradually enters the high glacial landscape, with the surrounding mountains appearing increasingly imposing.
After a short break at Gorak Shep, continue toward Everest Base Camp along the lateral moraine and glacial terrain of the Khumbu. The trail is demanding at this altitude, and progress naturally becomes slower as the air grows thinner.
Eventually, the iconic surroundings of Everest Base Camp at approximately 5,364 meters come into view. Take time to absorb the achievement, photograph the legendary Khumbu landscape, and appreciate the enormous peaks and ice formations surrounding the camp.
After visiting Base Camp, retrace the trail to Gorak Shep for the night. The journey to Base Camp and back can be one of the longest and most physically demanding days of the entire trek.
Overnight: Gorak Shep
Maximum Altitude: Approx. 5,364 m / 17,598 ft
Trek Duration: Approx. 7–9 hours including the Base Camp excursion
Wake before dawn for one of the most anticipated experiences of the trek: the ascent of Kala Patthar. Under the early morning sky, climb gradually toward the viewpoint as the first light begins to illuminate the Himalayan peaks.
At approximately 5,545 meters, Kala Patthar offers an exceptional panoramic perspective of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Pumori, and the surrounding Khumbu landscape. As the sun rises, the changing light across the mountain faces creates a spectacular finale to the high-altitude section of your journey.
After descending to Gorak Shep for breakfast, continue down through Lobuche and the Thukla area before making your way toward Pheriche. The substantial loss of elevation makes the air feel noticeably richer and the landscape gradually becomes less barren.
Overnight: Pheriche
Maximum Altitude: Approx. 5,545 m / 18,192 ft
Trek Duration: Approx. 6–8 hours
With the highest section of the journey behind you, begin the long descent toward Namche Bazaar. The trail retraces the Khumbu Valley through alpine terrain before gradually returning to areas with more vegetation.
Cross familiar suspension bridges and pass through villages including Pangboche and Tengboche. As you descend, the forests become thicker and the surrounding landscape changes from rugged high-altitude terrain to greener Himalayan scenery.
After the final major sections of the trail, arrive back in Namche Bazaar. Enjoy a well-earned evening in the lively Sherpa town and reflect on the achievements of the previous days.
Overnight: Namche Bazaar
Maximum Altitude: 3,440 m / 11,286 ft
Trek Duration: Approx. 6–8 hours
After breakfast, begin the descent from Namche toward the lower Khumbu. Follow the familiar trail through Monjo and onward toward the road-accessible section of the region. As you lose altitude, the forest becomes greener and the walking becomes considerably more comfortable.
Depending on current road access and local conditions, the vehicle may meet the group at the designated roadhead such as Thamdanda or another accessible point. From there, continue by 4WD along the mountain road toward Salleri.
This transition from trekking trail to road journey marks the final stage of your Everest adventure, while the surrounding villages, forests, terraced fields, and mountain roads provide one last look at the landscapes of Solu-Khumbu. Road conditions can influence the exact meeting point and travel duration.
Overnight: Salleri
Trek + Drive: Dependent on roadhead and conditions
Maximum Altitude: Approx. 2,400 m / 7,900 ft
After breakfast, begin the final overland journey from Salleri to Kathmandu. The long drive retraces the winding mountain roads through the middle hills, passing rural settlements, terraced farmland, forests, rivers, and changing landscapes.
As you approach the Kathmandu Valley, the scenery gradually transitions from quiet Himalayan foothills to a busier urban environment. Arrive in Kathmandu later in the day and conclude your Everest Base Camp Trek by Road, carrying memories of Sherpa villages, high mountain trails, Khumbu Glacier, Everest Base Camp, and the sunrise from Kala Patthar.
