The Manaslu Annapurna Circuit Trek is an extended Himalayan adventure that connects two of Nepal’s most remarkable trekking regions in one continuous journey. The route circles Mount Manaslu, the world’s eighth-highest mountain at 8,163 meters, before joining the Annapurna Circuit at Dharapani and continuing toward Thorong La Pass. With remote mountain settlements, high-altitude valleys, dramatic landscapes and two major Himalayan pass crossings, this trek offers an experience suited to travelers seeking a challenging and varied journey through Nepal.
The adventure begins in the Budhi Gandaki Valley, where the trail follows rivers, suspension bridges, terraced hillsides and forested slopes toward the remote settlements of the Manaslu region. As the route climbs north, the scenery gradually changes from subtropical vegetation to alpine terrain, with traditional villages reflecting strong Tibetan Buddhist cultural influences. Villages such as Jagat, Deng, Namrung and Samagaon provide opportunities to experience local mountain life while enjoying views of Manaslu and the surrounding Himalayan peaks.
The Manaslu section reaches its highest point at Larkya La Pass, approximately 5,106 meters above sea level. The approach involves several days of gradual elevation gain, including time to acclimatize around Samagaon. Beyond the pass, the trail descends toward Bimthang through rugged high-altitude landscapes, glacial terrain and mountain valleys. This section is physically demanding, and the crossing depends on suitable weather, trail conditions and the trekker’s health.
At Dharapani, the route connects naturally with the Annapurna Circuit. Instead of ending the trek after the Manaslu crossing, you continue through Chame, Upper Pisang and Manang toward the Annapurna massif. The landscape changes again as the trail moves through pine forests, traditional villages, dry mountain valleys and increasingly exposed high-altitude terrain. Manang provides another important opportunity to rest and acclimatize before the final high pass.
The Annapurna section culminates at Thorong La Pass, approximately 5,416 meters, followed by a long descent toward Muktinath. From here, the journey enters the Mustang region, where the landscape becomes drier and more open. The trek concludes with onward travel toward Pokhara and Kathmandu, completing a journey that combines remote mountain trails, cultural encounters and two major Himalayan crossings.
The Manaslu Annapurna Circuit Trek is best suited to trekkers with good physical fitness, adequate preparation and a willingness to spend several weeks in mountain conditions. With TrekUp Nepal, the journey can be arranged with a licensed guide, necessary permits, teahouse accommodation and ground transportation according to the confirmed package. Because the itinerary includes two passes above 5,000 meters, careful acclimatization, appropriate equipment and flexibility around weather conditions are essential.

Manaslu Annapurna Circuit Trek Overview
The Manaslu Annapurna Circuit Trek brings together two of Nepal’s most rewarding high-altitude trekking routes in a single extended Himalayan journey. Beginning in the Budhi Gandaki Valley, the trail travels through remote settlements and alpine landscapes around Mount Manaslu before crossing Larkya La Pass and joining the Annapurna Circuit at Dharapani. The journey then continues through Chame, Upper Pisang and Manang toward Thorong La Pass, followed by a descent into the culturally distinctive Mustang region.
The Manaslu section offers a quieter trekking experience through traditional mountain communities, Buddhist monasteries and rugged valleys. As the route gains elevation, forested slopes give way to open alpine terrain and dramatic mountain views. The crossing of Larkya La is a major milestone, requiring careful pacing, appropriate acclimatization and favorable weather.
After Dharapani, the Annapurna section introduces a different landscape and trekking atmosphere. The trail follows the Marsyangdi Valley through established mountain settlements, with opportunities to experience local culture and enjoy views of the Annapurna range. Manang provides a valuable acclimatization stop before the ascent toward Thorong La Pass, the highest point of the combined itinerary.
The journey concludes beyond Thorong La, descending toward Muktinath and continuing through Mustang before returning to Pokhara and Kathmandu. This combination makes the trek suitable for experienced travelers who want a longer and more varied Himalayan adventure rather than a single-region itinerary.
With TrekUp Nepal, the trip can be organized with a licensed guide, required permits, teahouse accommodation and transportation according to the selected package. The route demands physical preparation, suitable equipment and flexibility, as both high passes can be affected by weather and trail conditions. The itinerary should always prioritize acclimatization and safety over a fixed schedule.

Itinerary
This 23-day journey follows the Manaslu Circuit from Machha Khola to Dharapani before continuing along the Annapurna Circuit toward Manang, Thorong La Pass and Muktinath. It includes acclimatization days in Samagaon and Manang, two high-altitude pass crossings and return travel through Pokhara to Kathmandu. The itinerary may change according to weather, trail conditions, transport operations and safety requirements.
Your Manaslu Annapurna Circuit Trek begins with arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, Nepal, where a TrekUp Nepal representative welcomes you and transfers you to your hotel. After check-in, rest and recover from your journey or, if time permits, take a short walk around the surrounding area. Later, your trekking guide explains the Manaslu Circuit and Annapurna Circuit route, the two high-altitude pass crossings, Larkya La Pass (5,106 m) and Thorong La Pass (5,416 m), and the preparation required for the weeks ahead, including acclimatization, daily walking hours and trekking gear for the Himalayas.
Transfer: Approximately 30–45 minutes, depending on Kathmandu traffic
Altitude: 1,400 m (4,593 ft)
Meals: Not included unless specified in your package
Accommodation: Hotel in Kathmandu
Spend this preparation day in Kathmandu checking your trekking equipment, completing the necessary permit arrangements, including the Manaslu Restricted Area Permit, Manaslu Conservation Area Permit and Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP), and attending the pre-trek briefing. If time permits, visit cultural landmarks such as Boudhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple or Kathmandu Durbar Square, three UNESCO World Heritage Sites of the Kathmandu Valley. Your guide reviews the Manaslu Annapurna Circuit Trek itinerary, explains altitude safety, including acclimatization and the signs of altitude sickness, and confirms the transport arrangements for the following morning.
Walking: Approximately 2–4 hours for optional sightseeing
Altitude: 1,400 m (4,593 ft)
Meals: Breakfast
Accommodation: Hotel in Kathmandu
At the start of your Manaslu Annapurna Circuit Trek, drive from Kathmandu toward the Manaslu region, passing river valleys, rural settlements, terraced hillsides and mountain roads along the Budhi Gandaki River valley. The journey continues to Machha Khola, the usual starting point for many current Manaslu Circuit itineraries. Road conditions can be rough in places, and travel time depends on traffic, weather and the condition of the route. After arrival, settle into your teahouse and prepare to begin trekking.
Driving: Approximately 8–10 hours, depending on road conditions
Altitude: Approximately 870 m (2,854 ft)
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse in Machha Khola
Start the day’s trek from Machha Khola, following the Budhi Gandaki River on a trail that winds through forested hills, small settlements and narrow river valleys. Suspension bridges carry you across the river, and the path passes traditional villages as it climbs and drops through the Budhi Gandaki gorge. At this lower elevation the Manaslu Circuit trail can feel warm and humid, with uneven footing and a few exposed sections. Your walking day ends in Jagat, a traditional stone-built settlement and an important checkpoint on the Manaslu route.
Walking: Approximately 6-7 hours
Altitude: Approximately 1,340 m (4,396 ft)
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse in Jagat
Continue north from Jagat through the Budhi Gandaki Valley, passing terraced farmland, waterfalls, forested slopes and small villages. The Manaslu Circuit trail climbs through Salleri and other settlements, then continues to Philim, where the landscape opens up to steep hillsides and views over the river. Beyond Philim, the route grows more remote as you walk toward Deng, and cultural influences from the higher Himalayan communities become more noticeable.
Walking: Approximately 6-7 hours
Altitude: Approximately 1,860 m (6,102 ft)
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse in Deng
Follow the Manaslu Circuit trail through forested sections, rocky paths and villages along the Budhi Gandaki Valley. The route passes settlements such as Bihi and Ghap, where traditional houses, prayer flags and Buddhist features reflect the region’s cultural heritage. The ascent becomes more noticeable as you approach Namrung, a village known for its mountain atmosphere and views toward the surrounding peaks. Keep a steady pace as the elevation increases.
Walking: Approximately 6-7 hours
Altitude: Approximately 2,630 m (8,628 ft)
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse in Namrung
Continue through villages and alpine landscapes toward the upper Manaslu region. The Manaslu Circuit trail passes Lho, where you may enjoy views of Mount Manaslu (8,163 m) and visit local Buddhist sites if time permits, before continuing toward Shyala and Samagaon. Forests gradually give way to more open terrain, and the mountain scenery becomes increasingly dramatic. Samagaon is one of the key settlements on the route and an important base for acclimatization before the Larkya La crossing.
Walking: Approximately 6-8 hours
Altitude: Approximately 3,530 m (11,581 ft)
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse in Samagaon
Spend an additional night in Samagaon, the key acclimatization stop on the Manaslu Circuit, to help your body adjust to the high altitude. Depending on your condition and local advice, you can take a gradual acclimatization hike toward a nearby viewpoint or explore the village and its Tibetan-influenced surroundings. Some itineraries include an excursion toward Pungyen Gompa or other nearby viewpoints, but the duration and elevation should match your fitness, the weather and your acclimatization needs. Rest, drink plenty of water and watch for symptoms of altitude sickness before the Larkya La crossing.
Walking: Optional acclimatization hike, approximately 2-5 hours depending on the chosen route
Altitude: Approximately 3,530 m (11,581 ft) overnight; higher viewpoints are optional
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse in Samagaon
Leave Samagaon and follow the Manaslu Circuit trail through a broad alpine valley, with views of the surrounding mountain slopes and glacial terrain. The route climbs gradually toward Samdo, a traditional settlement close to the Tibetan border region. The shorter walking distance allows more time to acclimatize, although you should still walk steadily and avoid unnecessary exertion. After arriving, rest and prepare for the more demanding stages ahead, including the Larkya La crossing.
Walking: Approximately 3-4 hours
Altitude: Approximately 3,860 m (12,664 ft)
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse in Samdo
Continue from Samdo toward Dharamsala, also known as Larkya Phedi, the staging point for the Larkya La Pass crossing. The Manaslu Circuit trail passes through exposed mountain terrain with increasingly sparse vegetation and wide views of the surrounding peaks. As you gain altitude, the thinner air can make even moderate walking feel strenuous. Once at Dharamsala, rest, drink fluids and prepare your warm clothing and trekking equipment for an early start the following morning. Accommodation is basic, and availability can be limited during busy periods.
Walking: Approximately 4-5 hours
Altitude: Approximately 4,460 m (14,633 ft)
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Basic teahouse or lodge at Dharamsala, subject to availability
Start early for the challenging crossing of Larkya La Pass (5,106 m), the highest point of the Manaslu Circuit. The trail climbs through high-altitude terrain, where snow, ice, wind and low temperatures may affect walking conditions. From the pass, enjoy views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks when the weather is clear, then begin the long descent toward Bimthang. This is a demanding day that requires endurance and suitable conditions, and your guide may change the plan if the crossing is unsafe.
Walking: Approximately 7-10 hours, depending on conditions
Altitude: Larkya La Pass, approximately 5,106 m (16,752 ft); Bimthang, approximately 3,720 m (12,205 ft)
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse or lodge in Bimthang, subject to availability
Descend from Bimthang and the high alpine landscape into forested terrain, passing streams, meadows and wooded slopes. The trail gradually loses altitude as you move toward the more settled parts of the valley. The change in scenery after Larkya La Pass can be striking, with more vegetation and a warmer atmosphere at lower elevations. Continue toward Tilije, where you can rest after the previous day’s pass crossing.
Walking: Approximately 5-7 hours
Altitude: Approximately 2,300 m (7,546 ft)
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse in Tilije
Continue from Tilije along the Manaslu Circuit trail, through villages and river valleys toward Dharapani. This settlement marks the natural connection between the Manaslu Circuit and the Annapurna Circuit, so your Manaslu Annapurna Circuit Trek continues on foot, without a separate vehicle transfer between the two routes. After arriving, rest and prepare for the next section through Chame, Pisang and Manang.
Walking: Approximately 3-5 hours
Altitude: Approximately 1,860 m (6,102 ft)
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse in Dharapani
Begin the Annapurna Circuit section from Dharapani, following the Marsyangdi Valley toward Chame, the administrative center of Manang district. The Annapurna Circuit trail passes through forested slopes, traditional villages and sections of mountain road, with views of the surrounding hills and peaks. As you climb, the landscape gradually takes on a more alpine character. Chame is a convenient stop before the ascent toward Pisang.
Walking: Approximately 5-6 hours
Altitude: 2,670 m (8,760 ft)
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse in Chame
Continue from Chame along the Annapurna Circuit trail, through pine forests and dramatic mountain terrain, passing rocky formations and villages along the Marsyangdi Valley. Views of Annapurna II and other surrounding peaks may appear on clear days. The trail climbs toward Upper Pisang, a traditional settlement above the main valley with distinctive architecture and a quieter mountain atmosphere. Walk at a steady pace as the altitude increases.
Walking: Approximately 5-6 hours
Altitude: Approximately 3,300 m (10,827 ft)
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse in Upper Pisang
From Upper Pisang, take the higher trail on the Annapurna Circuit through Ghyaru and Ngawal. This route involves additional climbing but rewards you with expansive views of the Annapurna range and the surrounding valley. Pass traditional stone houses, cultivated fields, chortens and Buddhist prayer flags before descending toward Manang. The upper trail offers a rewarding introduction to the upper Annapurna region and allows a gradual progression in altitude. On arrival, settle into your teahouse and rest.
Walking: Approximately 6-7 hours
Altitude: 3,540 m (11,614 ft)
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse in Manang
Spend an additional night in Manang, the main acclimatization stop on the Annapurna Circuit, to prepare for the final high-altitude section. You may take a gradual acclimatization hike toward a nearby viewpoint or explore the village, depending on your condition and the advice of your guide. This rest day is particularly valuable because Thorong La Pass lies at 5,416 m. Avoid strenuous activity, stay hydrated and report any symptoms of altitude sickness promptly.
Walking: Optional acclimatization hike, approximately 2-4 hours
Altitude: 3,540 m (11,614 ft) overnight; higher viewpoints are optional
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse in Manang
Leave Manang and follow the Annapurna Circuit trail toward Yak Kharka, through open mountain terrain, grazing areas and rocky slopes. The vegetation becomes sparser as the route climbs higher above the valley. Take regular breaks and maintain a comfortable pace, as the altitude can make walking more tiring. Yak Kharka is an overnight stop before you continue toward Thorong Phedi, the base for the Thorong La Pass crossing.
Walking: Approximately 3-5 hours
Altitude: Approximately 4,050 m (13,287 ft)
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse in Yak Kharka
Continue from Yak Kharka along the Annapurna Circuit trail toward Thorong Phedi, the main staging point for crossing Thorong La Pass (5,416 m). The route follows exposed mountain trails and may include narrow or rocky sections. Although the walking distance is relatively short, the increasing altitude requires careful pacing and adequate rest. Once you arrive, prepare your clothing, headlamp, water and other essentials for an early start the next day.
Walking: Approximately 3-4 hours
Altitude: Approximately 4,450 m (14,600 ft)
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Basic teahouse in Thorong Phedi
Begin before sunrise for the demanding crossing of Thorong La Pass (5,416 m), the highest point of the Annapurna Circuit and of your entire Manaslu Annapurna Circuit Trek. The ascent from Thorong Phedi is steep and strenuous at altitude, and the descent toward Muktinath is long. Weather permitting, enjoy the expansive mountain views from the pass before descending into the drier landscape of Mustang. This is one of the most physically demanding days of the entire trek, and the crossing should only proceed when conditions are safe.
Walking: Approximately 7-10 hours, depending on conditions
Altitude: Thorong La Pass, 5,416 m (17,769 ft); Muktinath, approximately 3,760 m (12,336 ft)
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse in Muktinath
After breakfast, you may visit Muktinath Temple, an important pilgrimage destination for Hindu and Buddhist communities. Continue toward Jomsom through the dry valleys and settlements of Lower Mustang along the Kali Gandaki River, then travel onward to Pokhara by road or by flight where available. Transport arrangements depend on your confirmed package, operating conditions and the day’s schedule. Road journeys may take several hours and can be affected by road conditions.
Driving: Variable, depending on road access and the selected transfer
Flight: Possible on the Jomsom-Pokhara route when operating and included in the package
Altitude: Jomsom, approximately 2,720 m (8,924 ft); Pokhara, approximately 822 m (2,697 ft)
Meals: Breakfast; lunch and dinner according to your package
Accommodation: Hotel in Pokhara
Leave Pokhara and return to Kathmandu by tourist bus or private vehicle, traveling through river valleys, rural settlements and terraced hillsides. The journey gives you a final look at Nepal’s varied landscapes after several weeks on the Manaslu Annapurna Circuit Trek. Travel time depends on traffic, weather and road conditions. Best time to do Manaslu Annapurna Circuit Trek:
Spring: March to May
Spring is one of the preferred seasons for the combined trek, with generally favorable conditions in many lower and middle sections and increasingly warmer days as the season progresses. Forests and hillsides become greener, while clear periods can provide excellent mountain views. Snow may remain around Larkya La and Thorong La, especially early in the season, so pass conditions must be checked locally.
Autumn: Late September to November
Autumn is generally a strong choice for this itinerary, particularly October and early November, when post-monsoon conditions often provide good visibility. The two high passes can still experience cold temperatures, wind or snowfall, and popular trekking areas may be busier. Book accommodation and transportation in advance during peak periods.
